Inspiration

Liz Jackson’s story is inspirational in its own right. When Liz tells her story in her own inimitable style, it really holds audiences spellbound.

It’s a remarkable story of outstanding success in the face of extraordinary adversity. Such is Liz’s drive and determination and her unswerving focus on achieving her huge goals, that nothing will stop her getting to where she wants to get.

It is these qualities that have taken her from a 25 year old with failing eyesight, no starting capital and no property for security, to being the owner of the foremost business to business telemarketing company the UK.

Start Up! is structured to chronologically cover the story of the planning and founding of Great Guns Marketing, and its development up to the present day. It is a ‘warts and all’ account identifying the failures as well as the successes. “We all learn most in the bad times so I’ve included them in the book so others can learn from my mistakes, so they can avoid them” says Liz. Liz recounts the story of her initial funding discussions with her business bank manager who was unwilling to provide the capital she required but did refer her to The Princes Trust. They required a business plan, and that business plan to be presented to their funding committee, which resulted in a grant of £1,000 and an interest free loan of £4,000. This was the starting point to a journey that we can all learn a great deal from.

Liz inspires readers by relating her bold and go-getting approach to everything she does. “If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right” as Henry Ford once said and this is the maxim by which Liz approaches everything in life. This is what helped her through losing her eyesight where she never had one down day and simply treated it as a practical problem that she needed to solve.

As if all of that isn’t enough, the book also contains a wealth of useful business tips clearly identified throughout each chapter of the book.
